about the artist

I received a BA in Modern Literature from The University of California at Santa Cruz. I completed the Graduate Bench Jeweler program at New Approach School for Jewelers in Virginia. I've been working at the bench for about 4 years... 3 of them spent at my current place of employment. I currently work as a goldsmith's apprentice in a retail jewelry store, but I hope to make the move to wholesale production, model making and design. My ultimate goal is to have my own production line. All of the work shown here was done while at my current place of employment. Most of these pieces were done as special orders, but a few of the pieces were intended as stock for the store. If you are interested in more details about the process of any of the pieces shown here, or if you would like to see my complete portfolio please email me.

2009 - opal pendant

I carved this pendant in wax and cast it in 18k yellow gold.  The opal was cut out of a old piece of jewelry and set in the back of the pendant like a coin.  The pendant was then plated with 24k gold.

I hand fabricated a model out of silver.  Made a vulcanized rubber mold, shot waxes and cast these rings in 14k white gold.

I cast waxes made from molds to create these rings.  The center ring is a wedge with one round diamond tension set in the center.  The side bands have channel set diamonds.  I did all casting, finishing and stone setting.

2008 - Tourmaline & Diamond Ring

2008 - Sapphire "Leaf" Earrings

I hand formed the 14K yellow gold frame and center "vein" of the leaves.  I used pre-made basket heads.  I arranged the heads so that they would fit in the frame, set the arrangement in plaster and soldered the heads together.  After the heads were attached to each other I soldered them into the frame.  On the back of the earrings I soldered posts and omega backs.  I set the basket heads with multi-colored sapphires.

2008 - Gents 50th Birthday Band

I hand fabricated this ring out of 14k white gold.  First I made a thin wide band and gave it a florentine finish.  Second I made a narrow thick band that would fit over the first band like a sleeve and then I cut that band in half; this gave me the side rails for the ring. I went on to hand fabricate:  two white gold bezels, one rose gold flower, one green gold leaf and the Roman numeral for fifty out of white gold.  I soldered the side rails onto the band and then evenly spaced and soldered all of the components around the band.  The last step was bezel setting one brown and one blue diamond.
