about the artist

I received a BA in Modern Literature from The University of California at Santa Cruz. I completed the Graduate Bench Jeweler program at New Approach School for Jewelers in Virginia. I've been working at the bench for about 4 years... 3 of them spent at my current place of employment. I currently work as a goldsmith's apprentice in a retail jewelry store, but I hope to make the move to wholesale production, model making and design. My ultimate goal is to have my own production line. All of the work shown here was done while at my current place of employment. Most of these pieces were done as special orders, but a few of the pieces were intended as stock for the store. If you are interested in more details about the process of any of the pieces shown here, or if you would like to see my complete portfolio please email me.

2010 - "polaris" pendant

I hand fabricated the 8 pointed star out of palladium.  First I made a sheet of metal.  Then I dapped the sheet so that it was domed.  I cut out and filed the star shape out of the dapped square of metal.  I did the lay out of all the stones, drilled all of the holes and did the pre-setting for a bead setting process.  I hand fabricated the back plate out of 14k rose gold.  I cut the plate into a cushion shape, dapped the metal and created a faux hammered finish with burs and rubber wheels.  The 8 pointed star is riveted onto the back plate.  my mentor did all of the final bead setting.

2010 - tri-color diamond ring

I hand fabricated all of these bands out of 18 k yellow, rose and white gold.  The gents band is 11mm wide.   For the yellow gold bands I hand cut 3 small 4 prong heads and set tiny yellow diamonds.  In the white gold bands i hand cut 2 small 4 prong heads for white diamonds.  The center band is made out of rose gold.

The rose gold band has a taller shoulder toward the top of the band to accommodate for the larger diamonds. I hand cut a 4 prong head for the center stone and then made the rest of the band just wide enough for the smaller side diamonds, and then i hand cut the 4 prong heads for the side diamonds as well.  I carved out the under carriage of the center head so that the side bands tuck under the diamond and rest flush against the band.  I soldered all of the bands securely together and finished it with a high polish.
